MURALS
memory is heritage
In Murs de Bitàcola we illustrate the episodes of our history in the streets of towns, neighbourhoods and cities.
"During the last months, the streets of Ulldecona have been filled with great works by @rocblackblock. This, August 1970, brings back to the present a scene that happened in this place fifty years ago. It is my childhood' street and they are my old neighbours. The older ones haven't been there for years, and it's been very exciting to see them return to what was once their home. Congratulations to the daughters for the initiative!"
"When I look at the mural made by Roc Blackblock, I remember the stories of my grand-grandmother, grandmother and mother "Sila" rummaging in this street in the search of light. They fixed the satiety used by my grandfather, my father and later me, following the tradition of being a fisherwoman. I carry it in my blood."
"I am personally moved by Roc's work. My grandfather, Pere Rocabert, exiled and humiliated in the civil war; his daughter Nuri, my mother, lived hidden in a basement with her mother for four years because they were looking her for being a Republican. Francoism destroyed them, like so many people. I wish they could see what Roc does with my products… it's my tribute to my mother and grandparents too. Thank you, Roc"
"Wow! How beautiful it has been ... thank you for sharing this piece of history ... I was born in Valls, on the Pla road, but I didn't know of Sant Galdric ... now I live 1000 km away, but for a few moments your Work has brought me aromas of the earth"
"To me, it seems an impeccable project! There is a gap, and we do not have symbolic visual references in the public space that tell the story of yesterday, that generate feelings of identity of the community and especially muralism as a means to give voice to the stories that were not told."
The lady in the back with the printed dress (on the mural "The Manifestation of the Buckets") was my grandmother, Valentina Gama Parra. I’m super happy because she was a great fighter and deserves to be on this mural (just like the rest of the women, of course). It is a beautiful tribute. Congratulations, thank you very much.
"... segueixo la teva feina, admiro el que fas i aquest en particular (El pas de les Brigades Internacionals per Barcelona), m'ha emocionat. Ja tinc una edat i trobo a faltar el reconeixement per tot el patiment, lluita i esforç de tota una generació, entre ells, la del pare i la mare que la varen viure i la varen patir. Agraïda per la teva feina i el teu compromís. 👏❤️"
